Norton Pledges Support for New Gay Newspaper

Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton (D) said Monday night she and other local leaders should help the staff and editors of the now defunct Washington Blade form another newspaper to serve the city’s gay community.

“I know that many will agree that we should do whatever we can to help Blade editor Kevin Naff be successful in starting a new GLBT newspaper to serve the gay community and the national capital region,” Norton said in a statement.

Norton’s remarks followed Monday’s announcement that the Blade’s parent company, Window Media LLC, was ceasing operations at the company’s gay-oriented publications, including the Houston Voice, the South Florida Blade, and the Southern Voice newspaper in Atlanta.
